Oliscani school toilets

Description

Oliscani village is located in the Soldanesti Raion in the central region of Moldova. In cooperation with the Municipality of Soldanesti and the Education Department of the Soldanesti Raion, ApaSan supported the school administration with the construction of a new school toilet.

The technology of a Urine Diversion Dry Toilet (UDDT) was used, which allows building the toilet to modern standards and attached to the school building. It eliminates the need for wastewater management, which is important as flush toilets were not a viable option, as there is no public sewer system in the village. The Oliscani school toilet block has been arranged alongside one the walls of the esisting school building, in order to accommodate to the available space. Access is through the interior of the school.

The toilet serves 425 pupils, teachers and staff and was inaugurated in November 2014 The total cost of the project for design, construction, supervision and materials was 695 000 MDL (37 570 EUR), of which 150 000  MDL ( 8108 EUR) were covered by the Soldanesti Raion.

ApaSan staff managed the project, procured design and construction works, provided technical assistance to the service providers and took care of quality assurance. ApaSan staff also organised a training of maintenance staff and pupils from Oliscani school on hygiene practices and maintenance of the toilet.
